deconstructing complacency about gaza

The fact is, it’s easy to settle in to a complacent comfort at a safe distance from the conflict. Personally, I’ve never felt peace about it, but I suppose my concern about saying the right thing has given way to my resolve to say something. So that something is this:

They’re starving, and we’re sending weapons.

Deconstructing Negative Beliefs

Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa recounted how the negativity he experienced under then head coach Brian Flores turned into negative beliefs about himself and his abilities. That’s something any of us can relate to.

How to Find meaning after deconstruction

A blue compass field appears in a black, starry sky.

One of the most fundamentally disturbing questions facing a deconstructing Christian finds its answer from one of Christianity’s most prevalent criticisms: everyone makes the Bible say what they want it to. Yes, subjective morality actually can be a really good thing.

DECONSTRUCTING MORE

So much of Christian theology subtly revolves around the concept of wanting more . . . wanting as much as possible, even. We want paradise, eternity, perfection. There’s no such thing as “good enough.”

I have very little problem with cancel culture, in general, especially the most recent edition. It’s objectively funny when people act as though cancel culture is some kind of recent development. The practice of ostracizing people for their perceived behavior is an age-old tradition. The only new aspect of modern cancel culture is the behavior […]

spirituality coaching 101: what does it mean to hold space?

Overhead photo of a baseball field in the middle of a corn field at sunset.

If you talk long enough about the field of coaching (particularly life coaching, spirituality coaching, wellness coaching, or career coaching) you’re going to hear the phrase “holding space” quite a lot. It’s one of those terms that can be just ambiguous enough for you to kind of get the sense of what it means without fully understanding the concept (no cap, on business, and that’s a vibe all fit into that category for me). So what does it mean to hold space?

life, liberty, and the pursuit of normalness

For people who are fully immersed in the evangelical Christian lifestyle, Easter weekend is intense. I always envied the people who would just show up for Easter service and move on to brunch with no plans to come back to church before Christmas. That’s because I was spending the entire weekend obsessing over the validity […]
